Okuley Smith LLC is the successor to Mueller Smith & Okuley, LLC and Mueller Smith, a legal professional association originally founded in 1980. Okuley Smith practices in diverse areas of intellectual property law and related business law. Our practice has concentrated on the acquisition and protection of intellectual property rights, including application for and prosecution of patents and protection of trademarks, along related aspects of intellectual property management, including infringement counseling, copyrights, licensing, domain name disputes, new business start-ups and due diligence support during acquisitions and funding events. 
For many years we have been involved in protecting our clients' intellectual property assets through litigation and litigation support.
Firm History
The Mueller-Smith building was specifically designed to inspire the productivity of the firm’s intellectual property law practice. Central Ohio, as home to one of the largest research universities in the world and birthplace for several industries sits at a crossroads of innovation in research and industry. In 1984, after finding that no available office space could be configured adequately to meet the needs of the practice, the firm’s founders located a building site along the banks of the Olentangy River, a protected Ohio Scenic River. Five miles north on the banks of the same river are ruins of the abandoned Bieber mill, a nineteenth century water powered gristmill. The Bieber mill is now protected by the state of Ohio. Along the Olentangy River, many early structures were built from the exposed stone of the riverbed.
